Sun-Sational is a 100% mineral, broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen formulated for the faces of kids and tweens ages 8 to 13. The only UV filter is zinc oxide at 12.5%, which sits on top of the skin and reflects UVA and UVB rather than being absorbed. A sheer iron-oxide tint means it blends into every skin tone without the chalky white cast mineral sunscreens are known for, which is the reason most tweens refuse to wear one.
Dermatologists and the American Academy of Dermatology recommend broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher for children every day, and mineral filters for sensitive skin. Sun-Sational adds what young skin can use, including niacinamide, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, aloe and green tea, and leaves out what it cannot: no chemical UV filters (no oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone or octocrylene), no synthetic fragrance, no parabens, sulfates or phthalates. It is reef-safe, clinically tested for sensitive skin, pediatrician approved, cruelty-free and made in the USA.
It is light enough to be the last morning step, over Smooth Operator. Apply 15 minutes before going out, and reapply every two hours outdoors and right after swimming or sweating. [Confirm tube size and water resistance.]
